On The Wings of Destiny

Somehow destiny comes into play. These children end up with you and you end up with them. We witness a miracle every time a child enters into life. But those who make their journey home across time & miles, growing within the hearts of those who wait to love them, are carried on the wings of destiny and placed among us by God's very own hands.

We are slowly settling in

Thanksgiving was great this year and now we look ahead to Christmas. I can only imagine how hectic but fun it will be.
We are finally recovered from jet lag, that is a great thing.
Leah is slowly settling into her new life. We have good days and bad days, I think we are having more good then bad. She was starting to sleep really good, but then we have had two nights in a role that she wakes up screaming and scared.
She still is working on accepting Jenna and Adam. Every once in awhile she will follow Jenna every where she goes and seems nice to her, but for the most part she is still aggressive with her. Since Scott is back to work she won't let him do much for her, so I have to leave the house or go down stairs, so she is forced to let him.
She has made up with my parents well now and several other family members.
She is easy to love but can be hard to deal with.
I take both girls to the cardiologist on Wednesday, I'm praying for good news. We also have our first of five years of home studies on Thursday. Friday is Adam's birthday, so we have a busy week.

long over due

I'm sorry it's been so long, but life with a 2 year old is hectic! First of all , let me say how thankful I am to be blessed with a great husband and 4 great kids, it was a special thanksgiving this year.
Ok, jet lag kicked our butts. It was awful we felt terrible for 3 days, we are now back to normal I think. The older three kids have been such a great help to us, Leah has been pretty hard on them, so I know it hasn't been easy.
Leah is very attached to me right now and doesn't want to share me at all. She smacks and screams at anyone who tries to get her momma! She seems to be accepting Alex the best and lets him carry her around some. Poor Jenna gets the blunt of her smacks, I keep telling Jenna it will get better with time, she just says man Leah sure is rude!
It's been a week today that we have been home and even though it's still hard I see so many good changes in her. For one she is getting stronger, her muscle ton was pretty bad. She is eating some solid food! that is a big one for her. She has had some good times dancing with and following Jenna around. She trying hard to repeat words, very cute. She can say, good, momma, baba, sissy, thank you, kitty, dogga, bye, be nice (she hears that one a lot)nana and I think she said Alex yesterday.
I love her so much and can't wait to see her true personality start to bloom.

We are now hours away

We are now less then 24 hours away from leaving! I have exactly 4 hours and 15 minutes of work left until I return February 8th! Hopefully I will have a job to come back to.
We still have alot of things to do to get ready. I leave work today at 9:30, going to use my gift certificate Scott got me for my birthday to get a pedicure. Then have to go to the grocery and stock up on food for Adam, he will be staying at home for the 2 weeks we are gone. I hope he doesn't throw any wild partys while we are gone LOL!
I also need to finish packing Alex's clothes and I have two loads of laundry to wash and fold.
I thnk both sides of our family are stopping by tonight to say their good byes to us.
Jenna got teary eyed last night when she said you only have one more day before you leave. That is going to be realy hard to leave her. I'm so thankful my parents, brother and best friends have stepped up to help take care of her and Alex. That eases my mind some.

please follow the rest of our journey on the other blog address i put in my last post.

The next post here will be us home as a family of six!!!

Take care

Our blog for the trip

http://www.myadoptionwebsite.com/leahgrace/index.htm

Here is the link for our blog for the trip to China. I won't be updating this blog until after we get home. So follow us through the journey at:
http://www.myadoptionwebsite.com/leahgrace/index.htm

This is it!!!!!

It's the week we have been waiting a year for! We leave Friday morning at 7:30. Our neighbor/best friend Rodney is taking us to the airport. Words can not describe how excited we are to meet our baby girl. It's been four months since we have seen her face, so I can't imagine how much she has changed in that time. Her birthday is tomorrow. We are sad not to be with her, but it helps knowing we are leaving this week and will be holding her in our arms very soon.

A week from today

A week from today we will be in the air. We leave Louisville at 7:30 am, fly to Chicago, then leave around 11:00 to fly to Seoul Korea.
I'm so excited, I'm still in shock that we will be leaving in days now.
I do feel the tug starting on my heart when I think of leaving Jenna for so many days. It makes me feel panicky and sick to my stomach. I of course have to wear my momma brave face that it won't be that long that we are apart so that she doesn't start with anxeity of being apart from us.
Truth of the matter is not only does she suffer with separation anxeity so do I from her. Our hearts are so connected that it is almost unbearable to think of being away from her and that far away for so long.
Being a mom is tough, you are needed by so many people in so many ways, but I wouldn't change it for the world. It's my most cherished part of my life. I know how lucky I am to be the mom of my four kids. Now Leah Grace is needing me to come get her and bring her home to her forever family and I know my wonderful mom will step in and take excellent care of my babies.
I'm also lucky to have such great parents. I hope one day my kids will look at me and feel the same love and devotion my parents give to me.

Final Travel Meeting is done

We had our final travel meeting on Tuesday, just to go over some last minute things. I felt like a pro, everything he went over we had done before on Jenna's journey, so it wasn't new to me. Mike from AHH is great and does a great job and we appreciate all his hard work.

We will be leaving a week from tomorrow and we still have a lot to do to get ready. We are so excited to bring Leah home to meet her family and friends.

We leave next Friday, I still can't believe it.

16 days and counting!!!

Soon we will be holding little Leah in our arms. I can hardly believe it that we are 16 days away from going. Things are so different for me this time from Jenna's adoption. I remember being so scared before we left. Scared of all the unknowns and a private fear of what if they give me this little girl and we don't bond. I loved her through a picture, that's all we had and secretly I worried would I feel don't feel an instant love for her when I saw her. I didn't want to tell anyone, afraid of what they may say, since we invested so much time in her adoption, I thought they would think less of me for being worried about that, I didn't even tell Scott. A few weeks ago I finally told me that I had felt that way and he admitted he did to but was scared to say it out loud to me.
But when Jenna walked into the hotel lobby that day, my heart swelled 100 times it's normal size, I touched her little hand and my fears escaped my body, she was my daughter in every way. Just as if I had given birth to her and they were placing her in my arms for the first time, God was handing her over to me and placing her in a very special place in my heart.

This trip I feel relaxed, knowing no matter happens, if we miss a plane, we will make it to China! I will never run for another airplane, they won't wait for you and even if you end up in the Netherlands, we will make it to China one day! I know and can't wait for God to hand Leah over to me and she also have a very special place in my heart, just as he did with Jenna. I look forward to watching her blossom in front of our eyes, if you haven't adopted, watching this shy, scared and timid child begin to trust, emerge and love is an amazing miracle to witness.

We will eat new things, be more adventurous, and soak up every experience we can. Yes we will become home sick and miss our three kids more then words can describe, but we will also embrace the journey and miracle God has entrusted to us.

We are coming Leah Grace..

We have our dates!

We will leave November 4th and our Consulate Date is November 16th.
I hope today we will find out how much our airfare and hotel room rates are.
Our wonderful guide Alison emailed me and said she did reserve us a hotel room. I hope it's still the China hotel Marriott, I've emailed her back to check. But as long as we get Leah that is all that really matters.
YIPPEE, we are going to China!!!!

Monday, October 3, 2011

Oh yeah we are going to China

Our TA has arrived and as of right now looks like we will leave November 4th and get Leah November 7th then come homeNovember 18th. We will have these dates in stone next Monday or Tuesday when China opens back up from their long holiday. Now we are saying prayers for the Consulate date to be confirmed for November 15th, that our guides can find us nice but reasonable hotel rooms and for cheap airfare. As long as the airfare and hotel are not more then what we planned in we are about $700.00 away from waht we need.
Did I mention we leave ONE month from tomorrow!! We are coming Leah Grace. :)

Will we get the call today?

After a nice relaxing adult weekend, probably one of the last before we get Leah, we could get the call today that our TA has arrived! If it does come looks like we could fly out of here November 3rd, one month from today!!

I will let you know as soon as I hear something.

Her first missing tooth

Jenna has had a loose tooth for about two weeks. Tonight she decided she wanted me to pull it out. I was so glad I got to be here for it. I know it sounds wierd but I've missed so many of her first things, I wanted to be here for this. She wanted me to pull it, so it was really special. All except she bleeds a lot and it really started to freak her out. She told me not to stop so after three good pulls, that tiny little tooth popped out and boy was she excited and proud. She is a big girl now for sure!

Man this roller coaster ride is crazy

After yesterday's down hill ride, today has been all up hill and smooth. Looks like TA will be arriving Monday or Tuesday for us after all!! We have the best agency, I love you guys for all your hard work and caring so much. If they can find us a room that we can afford we will be leaving November 3rd and come home November 18th. That's if we get the consulate appt they ask for and we can get a hotel room! Lots of prayers please!!

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

SO BUMMED..

My agency said at the earliest we would get TA October 10th week, could be the week after because of the holiday. I was thinking the 10th all along, but he says could be a week later. Then he says the consulate dates are booking up very fast, but the biggest problem is the trade fair in Guangzhou in early November has taken up almost every hotel already there are no open rooms, so we won't be able to travel until middle to late November. So we will for sure miss her 2nd birthday November 1st.
I am bummed. It's just are luck, but what are you going to do. Can't fight with anyone, it won't change things, it is what it is.

I am looking for C. Ragan.

I'm hoping that C. Ragan has saved our website information and will read this. Our adoption agency says that you have made a donation on our behalf on their website. Before they will accept it and apply it towards our account I have to verify your first name? Since I have past out our blog information and request for donations to so many people I don't know how to reach you, first to thank you and second to ask your first name so that the donation goes towards Leah's adoption expenses.

So if you are or you know C. Ragan please email me at KOlges@aol.com soon so that I can get this information to our adoption agency. I just need your first name.

Thanks
Kristie and Scott

A good news day

Yesterday was a good news day. Adam called and was offered a job at UPS. He has worked at Red Lobster for almost 3 years now and plans on keeping that job on the side, but UPS will be steady hours and better pay. They will also help pay for his college which is a plus.

Yesterday afternoon we learned that the girls cardiologist Dr. V donated some money to help bring Leah home! We are so touched by this, he is such a wonderful and giving man. Jenna adores him, and we are so grateful for his love and care that he gives to Jenna and his other patients. Thank you so much Dr. V, you are amazing. Now we are down to around $1400.00 that we need in about 5 weeks, hopefully the airfare isn't more then what i've planned on.

Now if our TA could come this week, it would truly be an awesome week! Come on TA, come just a little early..

Here is a link to our new blog. We will be using it duringour travels to China. Hope you follow along.

TA week??

This is the week before China closes it's offices for their Harvest Moon festival. They will be closed for an entire week! It would be great to get TA (travel announcement) this week, but I really think it will be October 10th week. Regardless I'm praying to hear good news this week and I would for sure be holding Leah in my arms on her birthday November 1st!
I'll post if we got the call saying TA arrived.
Have a great week everyone.

Article 5 was picked up and the wait for TA begins

The Article 5 was picked up yesterday and now we wait for TA. The average wait time is 2-4 weeks. We hope CCCWA is in hurry to clean up their desks before holiday and we will pushed on through sooner than later. We realy hope that we are able to fly out of here October 27th and that would make Gotcha Day November 1st, Leah's 2nd birthday. I can't believe we are just a little over a month away from holding her and discovering her little or big personality.
We are still trying to come up with the last $2000 we need for the trip. I'm trying hard not to stress, God will provide a way. We are still gladly accepting donations.

Also if ANYONE has or knows someone that would be willing to donate frequent flyer miles to help us get cheaper airfare, that would be wonderful!
We are currently doing an Avon sale that we will get 40% of the sales and a massage gift card raffle, chances are $5.00 each. Please let me know if you would like to purchase or donate in anyway to help us out.
Who know the next time I update I could be saying TA has arrived!

Monday, September 19, 2011

Not a whole lot happening

Tomorrow our Article 5 should be picked up. We are so excited to be waiting on TA travel anoucement. We are thinking it should arrive October 10th week. We a little luck and a lot of prayers we hope to fly out of here October 27th, that would make our Gotcha Day November 1st (her 2nd birthday). We are thrilled to so close. We are trying to come up with our last $2000.00 we need for the trip.
I'm running out of time and ways to come up with the money. If you would like to help please we would appreciate.

Have a great week.

We are getting really close

Our article 5 is schedule to be picked up on Tuesday then we will be waiting for TA to arrive. We should be heading out of here in around 6 weeks! I can't beleive it, we are so close to holding her little butt in our arms. I'm looking forward to seeingher sweet face, I cant' imagine how much she has probably changed since the end of June. I look forward to getting to know her personality, hear her giggle, feed her a bottle, watch her find her position in her new family.
With us leaving in 6 weeks, it makes me realize all that we still have left to do. First of all we are still $2500.00 shy of what we need, so we are needing a miracle for that. Then we are needing a new car seat still, buy gifts for the orphanage staff, go to the doctor to get our medicines for the trip, get things squared away with the kids and then start packing.
Those 6 weeks will fly by.

The grand total is.... And the winners are.....

The grand total raised from the yard sale, bake sale, hair bow sale and raffles was $2872.00. We are very pleased considering the weather Friday was not the greatest. We still had a good turn out both days. Our goal we had set was $3000.00, so we got very close.
We are still in need of close to $4000 by the end of October.
We will be doing an Avon fund raisor and a Massage gift card fund raisor staring next week!

The winners of the raffles were.. Laurie Clute $50.00 Kroger card, Crystal P winner of Gas card, Wendy S winner of baby Blanket and Candence Searcy winner of Gatlinburg weekend! Congrats to you four and thank you everyone who bought chances.

Rain rain go away.. It's time for our Adoption Yard Sale

Friday and Saturday is our big community yard sale. We have had several people donate items to help us raise money for the travel portion of our adoption. We have several raffles going on right now during the yard sale. First is the big one, the 2 night Gatlinburg cabin weekend, a $50.00 gas card, a $50.00 Kroger card and a beautiful baby blanket donated by Razzberry Giggles. We will also be having a bake sale and candy sale. Scott's cousin Missy donated some really cute hair bows for me to sale and the money from the sales we can keep. We are praying and keeping our fingers crossed for the rain to stay away and we have a very good turn out. We are only about 8 weeks away from holding Ms. Leah in our arms and working very hard to come up with the last of the money needed! If you would like to help us and donate we would appreciate any help we can get!

NVC letter came

Tonight at 11:25 pm our NVC cable letter finally came through email. It's now been forwarded to A Helping Hand and China. There is nothing left for us to do paper work wise, boy am I glad about that.
Hoping to have TA by middle October and travel early November.
Now working even harder to come up with the last part of travel money.

Thursday, September 1, 2011

We are Cabled...

I spoke to a wonderful and helpful supervisor at the NVC who went above and beyond to help us. She located our package, entered it in last night. I called today and she was walking it over to be Cabled to Guangzhou today. Tomorrow I will have the letter A Helping Hands needs.
We are OFFICIALLY DONE with our part.
Now we are waiting for Travel Annoucement (TA).
Fingers are crossed for a speedy TA.
Two months from today our baby girl will be 2 years old!
We love you Leah and we are getting VERY close to having you in our arms.

Our family is getting a new member.

I found out today that I'm going to be a great aunt! My first niece Kayla is having a baby. It just seems like yesterday she came into the world, one of the prettiest baby's I've ever seen. I was pregnant with Adam when Kayla was born, they are 6 months to the day apart in age.
Yes she is young, but she has a big family who will support and love her. Babies are miracles no matter what. Sometimes the unexspected gifts are the greatest gifts of all.

Our family is adding a new member and I'm not talking about Leah

Thanks USCIS

Just wanted to thank the person at the USCIS who dropped the ball and left our approval sitting on their desk and for just mailing it out to the NVC office yesterday. We know several people who got their I800 approval the same day as us and are now already cabled to China.
Now I have to wait for our package to arrive at NVC and beg them to enter it into their system and approve it and cable it ASAP.

Monday, August 29, 2011

Visa's have arrived

Today we got our Visa's allowing us to enter into China!
Now will this be the week we get our Cabled letter, so we can be waiting on Article 5? We want to be waiting for TA so badly. We hope by the middle of September we will be offically waiting for TA.

Adam went to the doctor today for a recheck on his lung. All is good, he can return to work on light duty for two more weeks. I sure hope it doesn't come back, once it happens the first time you have a 50% chance of it happening again.

Leah's room is done

We just love the way it all turned out. Scott did a great job. I know she is going to love.

The China Hotel- Marriott, Guangzhou China

This will be our home for 16 days while staying in China to bring Leah home. We are very excited to be staying in one place the entire trip. Her province is in the southern part of China, so we will be enjoying Miami type weather in November or December which is great. To save on money we have decided not to travel to Beijing this time, it will help save on cost, it will be cold there and since we have seen it before we opted out this time.

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

I-800 is APPROVED

Today our I800 was approved by the USCIS office! We are so happy to be so close to the end. It will take a few days and then we will be working on the NVC Cable and then finally the long awaited TA Travel Announcement, we are very close now..
And now we move to:

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

Will this be the week?

We are waiting for our approval of the I800 from the USCIS. Once we receive it, then it will be NVC Cabled to the US Embassy in Guangzhou, China. After this we will be waiting on the Article 5 letter. These two letters only take a few weeks to get and then we are officially waiting on our Travel Announcement to arrive, inviting us to China to bring home Ms. Leah Grace.
We are getting closer with each passing day.
Scott is working on painting her room this week and Jenna and I will decorate it this weekend.
Come on USCIS and approve our I800, pretty please.

Jenna and her best friend

Jenna and Braxton are the cutest thing you have ever seen. They are truly like a old married couple. He out weighs her by about 25 pounds, but is so gentle with her and lets her boss him around. He doesn't take being bossed from anyone, except for his Jenna. They can't go a day without playing together. They argue sometimes, but they truly do love each other. They say they are going to get married, I believe they just may really do that one day.

Will we ever get our kids healthy?

Well it's August 21st at almost 1:00am, we have been at the ER with Adam again tonight. After a long and stressful 4 hours he was sent home. He thought his left lung was collapsing this time. He started complaining of the other lung while we were at the hospital last week for his right lung, they check it then and said it was fine. Today he said it was hurting more and he thought it may be collapsing so we went to the ER to have it looked at. Thankfully both lungs are both up and they said they pain could be from stress, or from the way he has to sleep because of the hole in his right rib cage, or the things his body has been through this past week. We are happy to be going to bed in our own beds tonight
Friday was teh 3rd day of school for Jenna and we already got a call from school that she was having chest pains. Of course I had to go up and check in on her and write down all her complaints for the cardiologists. Right now he is having us keep a log of everything.
I hope I get to work this week and maybe get some over time money as we are needing it for Leah's adoption and medical bills.
I have had so many things going on lately, I'm stressed out to say the least.
We are trying to start on fixing Leah's room in the mist of all this stress. We got the paint this weekend and I think we may try to start painting tomorrow. We hope maybe this week we will get our I800 approval, that would be great news.

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

Where have I been?

Adam is in the hospital with a collapsed lung. We got admitted on Sunday morning and maybe on Wednesday we can go home. We are both tired and ready to go. The other two kids have been staying with our best friends and we are so thankful for them. Rodney has helped us in so many ways over the years, when Scott doesn't have vacation time at work he offers to pay his day salary so he can take off to be with his family. He slept with Jenna and let her talk to him all night when she was scared about being away from us. He is a great guy and I don't know what we would do without the Patterson family, they are more then best friends, they are our family and we alway can count on their help during times like these. Crystal comes at all hours of the day or night and since she is a nurse will always check my kids out and give me advice or medical care. We are so thankful for them.

On the adoption end, we are waiting on our Visas to come and our i800 approval could be next week. Then we will be waiting on Travel Announcement (TA) to arrive, just need to get these kids well and get some health things going on with me taken care of.

Insurance vs. doctors, insurance wins.......

Eight surgeons and cardiologist had a meeting along with people from our insurance to discuss Jenna's heart. Six of the eight doctors agree it would be best to do surgery now before she gets sicker.
But they really don't have a lot of say in the matter, our insurance company has the final call. The insurance company has their own doctors, nurses and medical policies lined up and it is their opinion that Jenna's life is not in danger at this time. Her leaks and narrowing numbers have to be at a certain level for insurance to cover the proecure and her vitals are really good, so at this time they will not pay for surgery for her.
So we have to sit and wait, wait for her to get sicker. This is hard for me to process and accept. And while she waits, she will be on restrictions, no dance, no playing outside in extreme heat and no going to China!
This last thing just crushed her. She cried for over a hour about it, she wanted to go so bad. We promised her that once she gets all fixed one day that we will take her and Leah back to China for vacation. My parents have also decided not to go to China with us. They feel it will be best to stay behind and be there for Jenna and Alex. Jenna has never stayed the night away from us, let alone 16 days so it will be tough on her and us.

Much needed updates

Sorry for the long over due post. Jenna is on the mend, her leg is sore and very bruised. They did not have success getting arteries to open up on Thursday, to much scar tissue and to thick. They will conference with surgeons on Tuesday and come up with a plan for her. We were all disappointed but just praying they fix her soon. On one good note, we got LOA on Thursday, so we have been moved to Travel department at our agency.. Thanks for the prayers

Todays doctor consultation

Today Jenna had her consultation with Dr. Leaha who will be performing her catheterization test on Thursday. He was a very nice man and spent quite a bit of time with us.
We did learn that as of now they know she has two problems going on with her heart, the leaking pulmonary valve and narrowing arteries. He stated that there could be more problems once they get into the heart, but we will have to wait and see. If they find more problems she will have to have open heart surgery, if nothing else is found there is a possibility that they may be able to treat her with stints. The stints last for a few years until she really starts to grow some.
Also when they weighed her today she weighed in at 30 pounds again (the same weight for the past year and half) when she weighed in at 34 pounds about 3 weeks ago she must have been retaining fluid again.
We will go to Kosair Thursday morning at 9:00am, if they do stints she will spend the night.
We appreciate everyone's prayers.

Love this old picture, she is loved by so many.
